YCDFS
Offers Fourth-Year Scholarships
It is now standing policy of YCDFS to provide up to four
years of scholarship assistance to our recipients, so long
as students request that assistance each year in writing and
document their annual progress with copies of their post-secondary
school transcripts. Students should use the forms linked
to this web-site. Click "How Do I Get Scholarship?" near
the top of our home page.
Update on York City Scholars Program
The 2006 – 2007 school year ended with the graduation of our
second group of York City Scholars. Six seniors completed three
years of the program funded through the York County Community Foundation.
We are happy to report that all six of the students have begun post-secondary
education. We are delighted to report that the Scholars program
enters its fifth year of operation with fourteen students enrolled
in higher education; all eight students from our original group
returned to school for their sophomore year.
During their three years with us, the students visited Drexel University, Temple
University, Shippensburg, Albright and Penn State Main Campus in addition to
the York County College and Career Fair and the National College Fair in Baltimore.
The students met as a group with the counselor once a week to explore career
and college opportunities, practice social skills and prepare for the PSAT/SAT.
Students also had regular individual counseling sessions with the counselor to
develop personal academic and career goals. Our students participated in cultural
events including the York Youth Symphony concert at the Pullo Center, program
events including a Leadership Training Seminar conducted by Sandie Walker, and
community service projects including the annual Daffodil Dig in downtown York.
